With the Saturday and Sunday Dragon Duels completed, it’s time to decide one ultimate winner! John Alexander Wilkin won the Saturday Dragon Duel yesterday, and comes from right here in Toronto, fresh off his appearance last week at the Dragon Duel World Championship. His opponent is Connor Joseph Perrotta from New York, who won today’s Dragon Duel to qualify for this Championship Match.
Wilkin is running Qliphorts, while Perrotta is playing Blue-Eyes White Dragon! We haven’t seen Qliphorts all weekend, so let’s dive right into this unique matchup.
Wilkin opened with a hand of Summoner’s Art; Qliphort Helix; Qliphort Monolith; Qliphort Stealth; and Solemn Strike. He used Art to search his Deck for Qliphort Scout, activated it, and paid 800 Life Points to search his Deck for Saqlifice. He activated Qliphort Monolith next to complete his Pendulum Scale, then Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Helix, equipping it with Saqlifice. He Tributed it for Qliphort Stealth, triggering the effect of Saqlifice; Wilkin searched his Deck for Qliphort Shell, adding it to his hand. He Set Solemn Strike and drew another Qliphort Stealth with Monolith’s effect.
Perrotta Special Summoned Speedroid Terrortop, made no search, and Special Summoned Speedroid Taketomborg from his hand. When he overlaid his Speedroids for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss Wilkin negated the Summon with Solemn Strike. Perrotta Set one card to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.
Wilkin drew Drowning Mirror Force, Pendulum Summoned Qliphort Helix, and Tributed it for Qliphort Shell. That triggered Helix’s effect to clear away Perrotta’s Return of the Dragon Lords, and from there Wilkin was clear to make three attacks and win the first Duel!
Perrotta opted to play first in the second Duel, getting things started with The White Stone of Ancients, targeting it with the effect of Sage with Eyes of Blue to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from his Deck. He Set a single card to his Spell and Trap Card Zone, and in his End Phase he resolved The White Stone of Ancients’s effect to Special Summon another Blue-Eyes from his Deck.
Wilkin was holding Qliphort Carrier; Solemn Warning; Saqlifice; Qliphort Monolith; Majesty’s Fiend; and Rivalry of Warlords. He Normal Summoned Carrier, strapped it with Saqlifice, and Set Warning and Rivalry.
Perrotta Normal Summoned Speedroid Terrortop, searched for Speedroid Taketomborg, and Special Summoned it. Wilkin responded with Rivalry of Warlords. Perrotta chose to keep his Dragons, sending the Speedroids to the Graveyard. He sent both Blue-Eyes White Dragons to attack over the Carrier for 1800 points of battle damage total, and then overlaid in Main Phase 2 to Xyz Summon Number 62: Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon. Wilkin negated the Summon with Solemn Warning!
But Perrotta had Return of the Dragon Lords, reviving his Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Then he flipped a Set copy of Return as well, bringing back the other Blue-Eyes! He fused them both to Special Summon Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon to finish his turn.
But Wilkin drew Qliphort Stealth and Tributed Carrier to Summon it, bouncing away Twin Burst Dragon with Stealth’s effect. That triggered Saqlifice’s effect to get Wilkin Qliphort Scout. He activated Qliphort Monolith and Qliphort Scout as Pendulum Spells and paid 800 Life Points for Scout’s effect, fetching another Qliphort Carrier. He Pendulum Summoned both copies of Carrier, attacked with all three and reduced Perrotta to 1600 Life Points. He drew Vanity’s Emptiness with Monolith in the End Phase.
Perrotta drew to two cards in hand, clearly on the ropes. He Set one card to his back row.
Wilkin drew Qliphort Helix. Perrotta discarded his third Blue-Eyes White Dragon to flip his last card, Twin Twisters, blowing away Qliphort Monolith and Qliphort Scout in one last show of smiling defiance! He offered Wilkin the handshake, officially the first Duelist to congratulate our first Champion of the weekend!
Last week John Alexander Wilkin was competing to represent Canada at the Dragon Duel World Championships, and now he’s back in his hometown claiming the YCS Toronto Dragon Duel Championship! A truly awesome week for youth Duelist John Alexander Wilkin, our newest Dragon Duel Champion.
